(22 May 1733 - 15 April 1808), French artist, was born in Paris. His father, Nicolas Robert, was in the service of François-Joseph de Choiseul, marquis de Stainville a leading diplomat from Lorraine. Young Robert finished his studies with the Jesuits at the College de Navarre in 1751 and entered the atelier of the sculptor Michel-Ange Slodtz who taught him design and perspective but encouraged him to turn to painting. Joaquin Torres-Garcia
Uruguayan Painter and Sculptor, 1874-1949,was a Uruguayan artist (in a variety of media) and art theorist, also known as the founder of Constructive Universalism. Born in Montevideo, Torres Garcia later travelled extensively, and lived for some time in Barcelona, New York, Paris, and Madrid. He returned to Uruguay in 1934.
Jacob Gerritsz. Cuyp
was a portrait and landscape painter. He was born and died in Dordrecht, and was the half-brother of Benjamin Gerritsz Cuyp and the father of the much more famous Aelbert Cuyp. According to Houbraken, he helped the painters Jacques de Claeuw, Isaac van Hasselt, and Cornelis Tegelberg set up a Guild of Saint Luke in Dordrecht in 1642.
